IAONZ supports sector focus on smarter energy use and better-performing buildings

  • 28 May 2026

IAONZ welcomes the release of the New Zealand Green Building Council’s 2026 Election Manifesto, which calls for a stronger national focus on using energy smarter, starting with the places New Zealanders live and work.

NZGBC notes that New Zealand’s energy challenges are placing pressure on households, businesses and the wider economy, and that buildings consume nearly a quarter of New Zealand’s electricity, with much of that energy used for heating rooms and water.

As mutual members, IAONZ and NZGBC share an interest in better-performing buildings, improved energy efficiency, and practical action that supports healthier, more comfortable homes and workplaces.

For IAONZ, quality insulation installation is one of the minimum starting requirements for better building performance. The thermal performance of an insulation product is only realised when it is correctly specified, correctly installed, and protected from avoidable installation defects such as gaps, compression, folds, poor fitting, or missed areas.

Quality insulation installation supports reduced energy demand, improved comfort, better building performance, and improved resilience for households and businesses.

IAONZ looks forward to continuing collaboration with NZGBC and others across the sector to support practical, evidence-based improvement in New Zealand’s built environment.
